Back in 2012, I wrote about a seizure case of 100 cats (and 35 ‘other’ animals) at the RSPCA WA, and how it seemed before the animals had even made it back to the shelter, that the organisation was in the media claiming they would have ‘no choice’ but to kill.
(They did however take the time to ask for donations for their care).
At the time I hoped I was wrong. That although the RSPCA WA’s CEO David van Ooran seemed to be launching multiple massive seizures of animals with absolutely no strategy for what they might do to after the news cameras left – I had hoped that this wasn’t going to lead to a huge cull of these extremely vulnerable animals. That these animals were actually going to be rescued, not simply stockpiled for bit, then quietly vanish, never to be heard from again.
You know, that the RSPCA might do their jobs and protect animal welfare.
But – when the RSPCA WA says its going to kill the cats, only a fool would speculate that they might do something differently. Silly me.
Of the 100 cats the RSPCA impounded, between 30 – 40 were killed, or died over the next couple of months. The remaining cats – after two years of ‘treatment and care’ – are now deemed too sick to be placed.
Local rescue groups, are standing by ready to take, rehabilitate any cats who have managed to survive thus far, being ‘rescued’ by the RSPCA WA. So this is a plea to Mr van Ooran. Please allow these cats to live.
A 0/100 success rate for any seizure is simply too appalling to contemplate.
This is atrocious Shame on your RSPCA. How can they have deteriorated in your care….. too sick to be placed after treatment and care. Hypocracy in that sentence methinks. Isn’t killing a cat that has a right to life cruel. Where is the compassion, the caring that the RSPCA apply to all their advertisements… They pull in the donations and so many think they are Saintly but being one of the highest killers of abandoned animals in some States of Australia, the truth needs to be publicised.. This is just too heinous to think about.
Please don’t slaughter these cats. You are funded by the Government to investigate animal cruelty. Killing rehomable pets is also cruelty in my opinion. The public would be appalled it these animals die!
RSPCA are given donations by the public in the belief that they ‘rescue’ needy animals, rehabilitate them with loving care, including veterinary work and then find them loving homes.
How dare they kill these animals. If they cannot be bothered to help them, they should stand aside and let other rescues who will care for the animals take them,
I still remember what they did to Izzy and her pups when there were many people that would have taken them and their reasons were not believable, as the some of the health issues they described could not be diagnosed at such a young age.
The are not rescuing animals, they are killing them – I am absolutely horrified.
