As a vet nurse who worked in emergency, I have a few RSPCA stories I could tell. One involves a missing dog in RSPCA’s care. He had been hit by a car and had large gaping wounds. The owners found him at RSPCA about 4 days after and brought him into the emergency centre I worked at at the time (2-3 years ago). The owners made if very clear that they would spend as much money as it took to fix him.

Unfortunately because the RSPCA had done NOTHING to help this dog, they had no option but to put him to sleep. He had received NO anti-biotics, wounds were still open, my colleague said she lifted his arm up a little and there was a hole in his armpit from which black goo poured out of.
Then there was the time we had a couple of kittens dumped at our clinic. They were a bit full it seems, so they told us to ‘take care of it yourseves’. Meaning, ‘kill the kittens yourself because we have no room.’

I am sorry but as a vet nurse you should be doing everything to support the RSPCA, your comments may discourage donations and then you will be left with the massive overflow to deal with yourself everyday.

There are a lot of loose ends in this story. I have a hypothesis which could explain it:
RSPCA is trying to prosecute the back yard breeder who originally had Lizzy. They probably need evidence of mistreatment & poor breeding practice, so putting down puppies who supposedly had a heritable disorder as well as possibly their mother, would provide such evidence for prosecution. I can think of no other reason to put down those apparently healthy animals without first talking it over with the foster carer.

That is a disgusting state of affairs all round… I have heard these stories before, but took them as a grain of salt…NO LONGER will i do this, i am now a full believer. I have also been known to drop all my change in your tin. I will NO LONGER do this either… Was also going to join your pet insurance…another NO LONGER…. I fully hope you go broke & get out of your obviously lucrative & crooked business…. Let someone genuine, who loves animals take over they could obviously do it better with just love as a qualification…. NO LONGER should you hold the reigns…..

This is all a lie and the fact that everyone is deciding to quit donations to the RSPCA over someones slander is heartbreaking. The RSPCA care for so many animals and as anyone in the Veterinary industry knows euthanasia is not a decision anyone takes lightly but heartbreakingly in some cases it is necessary. IZZY IS VERY MUCH ALIVE AND LOVED
What do you all think will happen if the RSPCA close down there will be hundreds more animals bypassing any shelter and simply having to be euthanased by the local vet as there will be no other option. the RSPCA cannot help every animal at once but the ones they do help are far better off. And compared to the disgusting conditions of the volunteer run shelters I would rather pay a CEO to ensure standards are set in a company than create a breeding ground for disease!
