I live in the U.S. so I don’t know how much I can do about this, but that this goes on at the biggest, most well-known humane facility in the UK, and backed up here by former employees, is beyond imagination. Is there no oversight from higher up, as there would likely be in the US, that the activities of the RSPCA can be reported to? God help any strays in the UK if this is where they’re likely to end up. What part of the “prevention of cruelty” in their name do these people not get (or care about)? (Yes, this made me cry, too–total waste of what would probably have been a sweet family dog, not to mention the outright *deception* indicated by the description of this incident on the RSPCA’s part.)

This is appalling rspca are meant to be there to help animals,
They dont put humans down for these disorders and behavioural problems

I am so sorry, this is so so wrong. I know all shelters all have to put down animals at some point when there is no more option, resort but this is really unheard of! My heart cries with you over Thomas:( I am starting to think that RSPCA are not the best shelters….so sorry for this…..hope everyone shares this story….

Typical RSPCA brutality …. they are not the least bit interested in animal welfare ….

This story saddens me greatly & I feel so sorry for you caring people & poor Thomas.

The main questions that plays on my mind is WHY?
Why put Thomas down when you were prepared to adopt & care for him? Why not give him a chance?

I applaude you for wanting to take on this beautiful boy & wish the RSPCA had the same faith in you that you did in Thomas.

It’s just impossible to believe that this shelter should take it upon themselves to murder/kill a dog that obviously had a furever home waiting for him…and how the shelter could ‘play’ with these people by pretending Thomas was still alive…they hold have their license revoked and be shut down…we all know that if this was done to Thomas, he hasn’t been the only one that’d been killed/murdered under similar circumstances…and my heart breaks for his fosters…I hope they have the strength and support to file charges againt the shelter…GOD BLESS ‘EM FOR TAKING CARE OF THOMAS FOR THE ALL TOO SHORT TIME THEY CARED FOR AND LOVED HIM…RIP, Thomas…Run Free over the Rainbow Bridge…

    This is completely absurd.
They won’t get away with it even if they probably deny what happened.
    This will be solved.

I read the comments above and they all say how I feel about this heartbreaking incident. I cannot believe such an organization would do this when these people were willing to give him a forever home and above all else I believe that is what dog shelters are supposed to be doing. SHAME ON THEM!

I will never give to the RSPCA again! Shame on them for the terrible treatment of this animal!

This doesn’t surprise me with them, I have totally lost faith in them, from the experience I have had with animals in need, il never donate to them again, il give my money to smaller rescues that do a better job..

ABSOLUTELY APPALLING! My boy has separation anxiety and howls when I leave. I WORKED WITH him and hes much better. WTF is wrong with them? Glad I never donated.

Why can’t people be kind to animals and the people that love them? Thomas posed no problem to anyone whatsoever. Everyday I pray for this to be the day I die so I can be separated from the people who hate animals.

We should all put a message on their Facebook Cupcake Day page telling them that this is not acceptable. It’s fine to complain on here but it doesn’t really have any effect. We need to tell them directly. Please get everyone you know to do it as well. https://www.facebook.com/RSPCACupcakeDay
