An update re: the Melbourne City Council/LDH pound tender. Thanks to public criticism of their high kill rates, the The Lost Dogs’ Home have lost the tender (even though the organisations sits within the Melbourne council boundary). It is an embarrassment for an organisations which defends killing and a win for the pets.
From Rescued With Love:
Animals collected are now going to the RSPCA with the injured going to Lort Smith. A thought here, that crosses ones mind is Oh My Goodness – two animal welfare orgs, are ‘working together’! A win win for everyone concerned.
While the LDH sit out in the cold – for reasons only known to them, and have it laid firmly at their feet – that their own council looked and found them wanting. So no doubt there will be more councils receiving letters as tenders come up – and now a precedence has been set – other councils will be looking at the killing and making their decision on who they want to tender their animals to.
