The tenders are now closed and Melbourne City Council is in the process of reviewing the provider for its City’s pound services.
The Services are for Animal Collection and Pound Services. The City of Melbourne requires a service provider to perform a range of duties contributing to the provision of animal management services to residents and visitors to the City of Melbourne. These duties include:
- Providing services to attend, collect and capture animals wandering or contained;
- Providing pound facilities including transport and veterinarian treatment;
- Provide services for the assessment, rehabilitation and re-homing of animals that seeks to minimise euthanasia rates.
The tender is currently with the Lost Dogs Home, North Melbourne (LDHNM).
According to the organisation’s Annual Reports:
– In 2009/10, the LDHNM adopted 1,940 dogs, killed 3,242.
– In 2009/10, the LDHNM adopted 1,161 cats, killed 10,352.
– In 2010/11, the LDHNM adopted 2,168 dogs, killed 2,879.
– In 2010/11, the LDHNM adopted 1,357 cats, killed 8,993.
– Currently, a little over half of all dogs and just 5% of cats are reunited with their families.
