This is so tragic but these dogs can’t be trusted and should be banned. I feel so sorry for Jade, it must have been a dreadful ordeal for her, the only comfort she got was that at least she had her other dog.
My thoughts and prayers are with you Jade.

At least she has her other dog?!? If one of your children was murdered, would it make it ok of you still had one living? Stupid, uninformed people do more damage than all the dogs who have ever attacked or bitten anyone put together. Maybe stupid, ignorant people should be banned.

Obviously you are an uninformed individual Michelle. this is not a Pitbull whatsoever. You need to educate yourself or move to another planet because the world you live in is very small and revolves around you obviously. 3 times in the past 2 months I have been attacked by a shitzu – the last time breaking my ankle. What do council do – nothing!!! Tell me again what dogs are vicious please!

Suzanne, your comment is so common and yet so misguided I have owned quite a few pit bulls over the last 18 years , and only one wanted to fight with other dogs, he was all white and therefore deemed deaf which didn’t help him, The 1st one and the mother and grandma and grt grandma, of them was the softest dog ever both to ppl and all other animals, I have pics of some of my dogs sleeping with their head hanging into sick bunny boxes that were in the house as they were getting treated..and they never ever touched my bunnies which I breed to show ! as a child I was severly bitten by a dalmation, my son was bitten twice as a small child by the same alsation, and my friends young brother was mauled badly by the family working collie ??? so where do we stop accusing a specific breed and look to the owners ????

My heart goes out to you Jade, we had an Amer. Staff. for 17 yrs. and he was the most gentle, loving animal anyone could have. When will this idiocrisy stop. We have the same thing in Ontario, Canada & hundreds of the pitbulls here had to be shipped to other provinces when they were prohibited here. Could you possibly send Kerser to a shelter in another country where he will be saved?? Jade, fight, fight, fight.

what are you talking about. Number one, if she did DNA tests on the dogs I am sure they would end up a unique mix of dogs. So them what breed would NOT be able to trusted? It is people with your kind of attitude that make the world a bad place. I would be dumping you as a friend if i found you were so close minded. Shame on you for not doing your home work. You CANNOT judge a book by it’s cover. And no physical crime was commited here. Shame on the people who are doing this. shame shame.

What exactly do you mean by ‘these dogs’? What dogs are ‘these dogs’?? The kind with four legs, loving hearts and trust humans or the kind with two legs who think they own the world and have the right to destroy at will?

      • Pat | May 31, 2013 | Permalink

Suzanne you are a tragically deranged person to be so narrow minded to assume such a bizarre position against a breed you obviously know nothing about

      • David Knowles | May 31, 2013 | Permalink

You just don’t get it Suzanne. The media has brainwashed you as it did me until I adopted a “Pit”. He is the smartest, sweetest, most loyal dog I have ever owned. Sure he is built like a powerhouse and his stare and bark are very intimidating, but so was Michael Clarke Duncan. So open your mind. It’s not too late. All human races have the potential to be real good or real evil, but we haven’t banned a single race yet have we?

      • colleen | May 31, 2013 | Permalink

Have you ever owned one? Highly unlikely or you would not be spouting such rhetoric. Educate yourself before you expound on a subject you know nothing about.

      • Penny | May 31, 2013 | Permalink

bsl needs to end. These dogs can not be trusted what a stupid comment. Please educate yourself on the breed. Just read a article where 5 labs attacked a girl in Flordia. Any dog can bit. not just pit bulls. The people punished should be the dogfighters and the ones who are not responsible.

      • Andy In America | May 31, 2013 | Permalink

Suzanne, you are completely ignorant about these dogs. People like you who spout these idiotic ideas about animals they don’t know are the reason innocent animals are being killed each and every day. The nazis spouted ridiculous ideas about the jews for the sole purpose of exterminating them. That is what you are doing to these pets with your nonsensical babble. Pit bulls are some of the nicest dogs I’ve ever met. These traits that you fear are brought out of them by human trainers. They are no more or less unpredictable than any other household pet. I’ve seen meaner chihuahuas.

        “These Dogs”??

I suppose you thought in previously years Rottweilers, German Shepherds and Dobermans can’t be trusted either, however when the media stopped sensationalising every attack story to being one of these breeds they are now trusted again? Please go do some research before making uneducated comments to someone who is already hurting from loosing a dog they should not have had to loose.

      • Tina | May 31, 2013 | Permalink

What breed ?No dog can be trusted 100%but it is not the breed but the owner that can ne the problem. If you want to ban a breed that can’t be trusted you would have to kill all dogs. Why can’t these dogs be temperment tested instead by someone who knows what they are doing.Unbelievable.Until you have owned one don’t judge.

Suzanne, you obviously have not one idea what you are talking about. how about you take your UNEDUCATED responses elsewhere

      • Bel | June 1, 2013 | Permalink

One advice for you Suzanne, usually the dog will reflect the owner’s personality. So if you mean “these dogs” are dangerous, then most probably the owners themselves are dangerous too!!! A chihuahua can be taught to become dangerous dog if the owner choose to and vice versa a pitbull can be taught to become the most lovely dog in the world. It is absolutely a shame that human trying to differentiate them, where regardless the breed, dogs are dogs, one of our best companions!!!

      • Barbara | June 1, 2013 | Permalink

I have seen so many other breeds just as, if not more violent. Why would you dare to target just this one? What breed do you think violent people will turn to next once they can’t find enough of these? And do you really think that dog fighting people only fight pit bills now? They are not the only victims of such a horrific purpose. And if you did your research, you would come to learn that more pits save their families from harm than cause it. Don’t be so heartless and close minded. People train these dogs to be violent. When born, they are just as innocent as any other puppy out there.

      • Anne | June 1, 2013 | Permalink

You are a big part of the problem…buying into this ignorant, fear mongering.. I don’t own a pit bull but my border collie puppy played with several and they were the best friends that he had. I have horses and one of the horse farms that I went to had 6 pit bulls and nothing ever happened. If you ask the opinion of Vets, dog trainers and dog behaviourists they won’t agree with you. But you have bought into the hype…it used to be the Doberman, the German Shepherd and the Rottweiler…Some people wanted to eliminate those breeds too. But they survived…so much for all the hysteria about them…Now let’s move on to the Pit bull. We can scare enough people….just give them the smallest fear and they’ll run with it..
Let’s deal with the animal fighting rings and the scum that run them. Oh and if you haven’t heard, Michael Vick’s dogs that were so badly abused, were rehabilitated and went on to be companions, and even therapy dogs!

      • Layla | June 1, 2013 | Permalink

All the pitbulls that I have approached & that have approached me, LOVE me!!! I am not afraid of any dog, but I do read their body language first. All dogs can be MADE vicious, their “guardians” are the ones who need to severly punished IF there is a REAL problem.

      • Debora | June 2, 2013 | Permalink

It is not the breed but the breeder/owners of dogs that cause any dog to be vicious. There is a story and picture of a pit who fought a wild cat ( I think a cougar but am not sure) to protect the young children he lived with. Ask anyone who has done work inside or outside for people who own small breeds like terriers and they will have at least one if not more stories of these dogs attacking them from behind. I personally witnessed many small breed dog attacks to my ex while we were installing fences in people’s backyards. When we said something to the owners they would always reply with ” my dog would never do that”. Maybe we should band small breeds!

      • Belinda | June 3, 2013 | Permalink

I disagree Suzanne, it is not that these animals can’t be trusted it is that these animals don’t have the right human to look after the. Stop blaming the animals for this, it is the humans that have cause this, because we don’t know how to be their pack leaders. Wake Up.

      • gret | June 3, 2013 | Permalink

Suzanne…..what planet do u live on. Obviously not the same one as resonable people. No dog can he 100% trusted. If u r going to make blanket sweeping statements like that that are sensationalised by a biased media, u may as well ban all humans just because a few selfish ones are destroying the planet. whilr u are at it….why don’t u ban teenagers from shopping malls late at night because of the trouble they can cause. Oh and ban and destroy all muslims because they all are terrorists. BSL is wrong, just like stereotyping people is. Judge each human and dog by their actions and deeds, NOR by how they look or what nationality they are.

  2. Lisa | May 30, 2013 | Permalink

I am heart broken over this….I have 2 pitty mixes myself and they are the perfect pets! BSL is a horrible law, it takes the lives of family pets…..all the while those individuals who choose to have a a bully breed for ‘protection’ will still continue to do so despite the laws. It is very sad and unjust. The ‘law’ is not always lawful and very far from fair.
Will they not allow for the dog to be spared if he sent out of state?
I don’t know what I would do I was in your shoes…..I can only empathize with you. I pray that he will be spared by some miracle. ;(
I am so sorry about your baby.

It is a sad sad day when nice dogs get killed because of the way they look. It didnt work with the rotties and the shephards yet it is has now started on terrier types. What is BSL? I mean I understand what it’s about because of the story & the replies, I just never heard the term before now & don’t know what it stands for. I can only think Bull Shit Law because that’s what they are to me.

      • Amanda | May 31, 2013 | Permalink

stands for Breed Specific Law, though most will condemn an animal for ‘looks like’ with out proof that the dog is actually a member of that breed. i.e. a boxer mix will look like a pittie mix. But you are right the so-called laws are pure bull shit.

Speechless. What sort of country are we living in? It is not the breed, when are governments going to wake up to this. It is how the animals are brought up and then it is not their fault if they are brought up in the wrong environment. They learn from HUMANS, we are responsible for their actions. BSL = BULLSHIT legislation

Can this lady not get a special license, I seem a programme a few nights ago where a banned dog received one, there were some rules like he had to be on a lead and muzzled when out and about etc. Surely they can’t be allowed to kill an animal. And Australia give this perception they are a country that loves all animals, yet they want to kill an animal for the way he looks- murderers.

A citizens pet however is condemned to death for it’s heritage breed to which he was born. People are forced to accept the “rules” imposed by non-understanding uneducated people. In the children’s movies it would be considered heroic to “jail break” an innocent victim. How disappointing for children to discover the “current” world ways. :-(

  15. Robyn | May 31, 2013 | Permalink

This is very sad. If a dog is well trained and well behaved, where is the problem? More people seek medical treatment for attacks by savage, nasty spoiled lapdogs than the large terriers – although if they do attack or defend themselves, their jaw strength is enormous.
All the bulldog/terrier types should be trained. And it would be wise for owners to perhaps buy one of those harnesses and collars that describes your doggies personality.
I’m sure the neighbour is horrified that doing what he thought was the right thing has such tragic consequences.

I am so, so sorry that you are going through this. Yes, I agree that targeting certain breeds is because of ignorant people and stupid legislation. There are no bad dogs, just bad owners and when owners have caused a dog to be mean or aggressive, the dog needs to be given to a new home and the owner punished.
Stop this madness of assuming the worst of animals just because of the way they look. Change this law now! Allow Jade to keep Kerser. He’s done nothing wrong!!

This is so sad what humans have done to a breed. So many are not aggressive and have to be labeled this way. Why not go after the humans that do this instead of the dog. These dogs are loving and as good as any other breed, unless a human teaches them to be otherwise. A dog should not be put down because of its heritage. is that not what was done during WW2.? Even in courts it is to be on a one on one basis as to a judgement, not as a whole. All countries are so guilty of these actions. We treat dogs as so inferior but we use them to protect us, sniff for drugs, guns, bombs, medical issues, the police use them to attack, people they are trying to apprehend. Some how this attitude of a aggressive breed is wrong, when we use others to be aggressive for safety issues??? Should we then go after those breeds also?
I am saddened for the people the dogs own. Yes I meant to say it that way, we belong to our dogs, as much as they belong to us. They are so dependent on us, as we love and become dependent on their love and caring, the only animal that does love unconditional. This action is crushing to a family, and should not be if the dogs are not aggressive, let them be. One on One basis, should be the judgement.

This is insanity, Killing a dog who has never harmed a fly, just because of his looks. This is like killing a black person because of their looks. This is racial discrimination, pure and simple. The people who kill this dog, should be killed themselves.

something i don’t understande: here in ontario, we also have the BullShitLaw. they’re not restricted in quebec, nor are they restricted in other provinces (mostly municipalities). so why would it be illegal to send dogs from here, where they are illegal, to “there”, where they are not?

if the dog has no history, it should at least be an option to rehome the dog. it’s not like the UN declared them a global threat – they’re not the al-qaeda of canines, ffs. it’s just select individuals like that piece of filth who runs the “dogbite” website (she’s no expert – she’s a woman who got bitten and has made it her mission in life to destroy all bully breeds; to this end, she publishes false, misleading, and outright fraudulent statistics that ppl think are authoritative just because she picked a clever name for her little blog site).

I cannot believe that we live in a country where your pets can be taken away from you and destroyed for no other reason than the breed is banned. Who can decide such a thing. Chihuahuas bite people and so do all the other breeds. Who give you the right to declare a breed banned? That poor pup had not done anything wrong in his short life but some jackass thing they have all right to decide which dog should live and what dog should die. Shame shame on you. This is absolutely heartbreaking and disgusting! Until these crazy laws are abolished, I urge every animal to register their pet as a matter of urgency! Poor Kerser, you do not deserve this cruelty at the hands of humans – go after the real criminals instead!!! My heart bleeds for you, pretty boy. RIP. xx

BSL does not work, it has been proven over and over again. Responsible ownership does, do dogs get out yes we are human and errors are made. My husband travels and live all over the world and I will not move with him, my dogs are safe but where I live no matter how much land you own there is a three dog limit, you must pay and be approve to have 9 dogs. We did all that and more and the biggest problem in my neighborhood is the one dog owner that lets dogs run, chasing livestock, and atltacking other animals. If you do the research the pit type animals are not the number 1 biters it comes down to unneutered male dogs period. Education would go far in most animal problems some breeds are not for all people but we live in a entitlement world, they want it they get it and in the end the dog suffers , they are left for hours at a time, no training and no quality time or effort put into making them good pets. Just like young kids bored means trouble, no direction more trouble, no quality time with both jail we wharhouse people in jail, same happens to pet but we can legally kill them. It does not solve the problem we live in a throwaway and powerhungry world where people hide behind stupid, it seems that a few speak for the many and in any society it is wrong. It is not the breed but the deed we do not jail humans because they might do something. This is murder plain and simple

I believe BSL does work it just needs to be used on certain humans not dogs.

Pittbulls are such beautiful dogs and you are right Sarah, the people that should t own such breeds will be the ones owning them behind the laws back. I used to be a vet nurse absurd pitties can be a lot nicer than smaller breed dogs.
I’m so sorry Jade! I’m really praying Kersher gets to live and go back home x

In Massachusetts, where they have brains, they outlawed BSL a long time ago.

When the Belfast City Council deemed, in its “wisdom” to euthanize Lennox the dog (same breed — not a pitbull and not a “restricted breed”), the next day there were 65 pages of comments on the website along the lines of “They should have euthanized all the people living in Ireland, not the dog.”

Dreadful, I do not have dogs of these sort of breeds, but even so, I will never live in Victoria or any state that does this, if I can help it. If South Australia tries to go down this line I will change my vote immediately., That is the only thing you really have to change this, your vote.. Let your state and council members know that this is your number one voting issue, and if BSL is not changed your vote will.

How can be alowed such a crime ,to kill an innocent dog.
People that say that a brand of dogs must be destroyed I suposse also believe that black or other color people must die to. Hitler is back??????
Those people doing that to your dog are not less than ASSASSINS!!!
Is there any petition to sign? Speak to animal defense associations!!!!
