Henderson County, Kentucky’s (USA) animal pound has, in a single year, gone from euthanising 45% of intakes, to less than 5%, thanks to new Director Josh Cromer’s efforts.
Says Josh – “We can change the number of animals dying in the shelter by getting them to rescue and getting them out to adoptive homes,” but it takes people to help make that happen. “It just takes a little work — not that much.”
There are now 83 No Kill communities in the United States, made up of thousands of pounds, shelters, rescue groups and individual volunteers and foster carers. Rural and urban, rich and poor, small and large – when fully implemented No Kill eliminates the unnecessary killing of shelter pets in any community.
– Tell me again how as Australian pets are still being killed by the tens of thousands, that it is unavoidable and appropriate.
– Tell me again why we should donate to your high kill shelter, while you blame (dog films, puppy farms, Christmas, the carbon tax, a lack of mandatory desexing laws, global warming, aggressive animal advocates) your community for your failure to evolve your shelter’s practices.
– Tell me again how No Kill is confusing, misleading, unrealistic and impossible.
– Tell me again how your killing is humane, necessary and will continue to be an acceptable response to homeless pets in 2013.
No really… do tell.
