Hume City Council have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars of local taxpayer’s money, seizing, impounding, holding and seeking to destroy dogs who have done nothing wrong, but who simply look a certain way.
In some cases they’ve won their cases in the courts. Case outcomes are based on how each dog physically looks – genetic breed makeup or temperament have no relevance. Dogs with no history of aggression are killed.
Other times, as in the case of dogs Soldier and Allira, the Council has lost their case at VCAT and the dogs have been returned.

We are currently raising funds for the Supreme Court appeals against Restricted Breed Declarations. The appeals in the Supreme Court of Victoria are extremely costly, but very worthwhile. An appeal costs in the region of $20,000 to $30,000. Most people just don’t have that amount of money available to them to fight this legislation. If we all pitch in, any amount, hopefully we can make a difference, save the dogs, and hopefully get rid of this unjust legislation.
The current legislation does not benefit community safety, or encourage responsible ownership of dogs. It just kills innocent dogs, is based purely on their appearance, no matter what breed they may be, and damages families.
