Peeps – I simply cannot get to this one. However, it does look like a huge opportunity for groups looking to make change in their local community to get a good background on the obstacles and opportunities presented by council’s animal management departments.
They can see a change in community expectations coming towards them (hilariously, likening non-aware animal management departments to car-flattened cane toads), and rather than hunkering down are, admirably, are seemingly opening up a dialogue with welfare.
If there is *any* way you can get along – do. There are only a couple of animal welfare groups speaking on the program, so the more welfare groups able to attend and have a role in the discussions, the better.

“We have always said that AIAM does Animal MANAGEMENT conferences – AIAM does not do Animal WELFARE conferences… And that is as it should be.
The separation of regulatory powers between Animal Management and Animal Welfare that is commonplace in Australia today is perhaps something of an anomaly in a global sense. There is strong anecdotal evidence that both Animal Management and Animal Welfare in Australia may be missing out on something good by not being betterlinked together in an operational sense.
This coming conference will look at the convergence theme – convergence between Animal Management and Animal Welfare. We have scheduled a number of papers and a workshop for Alice Springs conference that will investigate what benefits for Animal Management might flow form a closer association between the two disciplines. We think this is a movie that could be coming to a theatre near your Council soon.
