As a follow up to yesterday’s post on the Lost Dogs Home management of Brisbane Pound, please find below the outcomes for dogs by breed. These are the animals which have had their outcomes confirmed at the time the Right to Information report was printed off (around August 2013).
By counting dogs as a number, or a statistic, it’s easy to forget that each one of these dogs was a living, breathing animal who had the potential to find a new life. By publishing stats once a year, at the back of an annual report, organisations can gloss over the rights of the individual pet to care and protection. Which is of course why they do it.
Tables below. Can we finally put to bed the notion that ‘no one WANTS to kill pets’? The Lost Dogs Home not only wants to, they choose to, and they do so in a lazy, perfunctory manner.

This breaks my heart. :(
This does not make sense. The name of the Organisation is misleading. It is not “a Lost Dogs Home” it is a concentration camp with a gas chamber. It should be names accordingly. Dog Destroyment Depot .
I see poodles and Border Collies on this list – and my heart hangs deep and heavy.
This is so unfair. I know more aggressive Chihuahuas than I do Bully breeds. Media is doing these dogs such an injustice and it has to stop!
Staff who work for the LDH must sign a contract specifying they will not discuss their work or pass on any info about what happens at their work. If they do LDH follows through on prosecution.
This speaks volumes about the lengths LDH goes to in order to maintain secrecy about what they do.
The Manager also lies when questioned about the operation and the Brisbane City Council Officer who *should* ensure that LDH do their utmost to reduce the kill rates only covers up for LDH and lies for them even more.
Secretive nazi death camps for tame, healthy, adoptable cats and dogs – that’s what Lost Dogs Home and Brisbane City Council actually run. Don’t be fooled by all the weazle words they use in their brochures and in person.

174 killed 13 adopted
It looks exceptionally so from the numbers that the lucky few that were adopted was by pure chance.
The other 174 poor little souls were killed. No regard or consideration for individual natures or personalities, health or temperament. No love no care no feeling.
I ponder the why’s and the what if’s… Senseless disregard
Everyone of them mattered… No one cared, not enough.
Is there a petition currently running against LDH Brisbane? I know a lot of people who want to sign it.
When I phoned head office and asked about the kill rate I was told they only euthanize sick animals. That is a lot of sick animals!!! On top of everything else they lie to cover the cruelty . I am so disgusted.
I live in Adelaide but would like to know how to let the Bne council and LDH know exactly what I think of them… I read all your posts but need to be prompted on what I can do… I share your posts but could you start up a petition or contact the tv at least just to have them named and shamed.. More people need to know about this……..
So the Lost Dogs Home have taken their killing spree to Brisbane. What a surprise. It’s time for people to stand up against this ‘business’ that cares so little about the animals in it’s care.
Well said.
This is just horrible so many beautiful dogs, this makes me sick. Seems to me the lucky few that were adopted were just that…..LUCKY. :(
This is so disgusting. I get so frustrated and upset by these stats… I want to save all the animals of the world from us awful humans…
