PIAA policy announcement (March 2012)
Speaking at the launch at NSW Parliament House, PIAA Chief Executive Roger Perkins said consumers can now be confident that by buying a dog or puppy from a PIAA members store, they are helping stamp out dodgy puppy farms. “Dogs and puppies sold in our stores will only be from PIAA approved breeders who care for their dogs” Mr Perkins said.
The PIAA is also in advanced discussions with Australia’s only government recognised pet dog breeding association, the Australian Association of Pet Dog Breeders (AAPDB) about its members becoming approved suppliers of dogs to member stores.
AAPDB President Kate Schoeffel welcomed the policy. “We applaud the move by PIAA, which will not only work to stamp out disgraceful practices among some dog breeders, it will give pet owners confidence they are making an ethical purchase and will more likely buy a dog that suits them and their families. This will also promote ethical breeders and pet shops, encouraging better industry practice across the board.”
RSPCA NSW CEO Steve Coleman said, “the PIAA’s initiative in seeking to better control the breeding and sale of puppies is a significant advancement in improving animal welfare.”
Chair of the NSW State Government’s Companion Animal Taskforce, the member for Charlestown, Andrew Cornwall MP, applauded the PIAA Dogs Lifetime Guarantee Policy on Traceability and Rehoming. “PIAA’s policy is a step in the right direction for ensuring the welfare of puppies and dogs, and eliminating cruel puppy farms in NSW. With this initiative, potential pet owners can be sure they are buying the right pet from a source that is ethical.”

So, what the hell happened to Kate Schoeffel between March 2012 and March 2013?? The breeding conditions at her PUPPY FACTORY appear in complete contradiction to the standards set out in her policies of 2012. Does she see herself as ‘exempt’ from the very policies she has constructed? I was appalled, outraged and disgusted to see not only the conditions these poor animals are subjected to but to read the diary entries which give evidence of blatant abuse and typical puppy farmer compassion deficit towards the animals she is breeding. If this is the standard practise for an AAPDB President and a VET,and she is supposed tobe ‘leading the way’,then I suggest ALL puppy farms are inspected immediately. Her puppyfarm needs to be CLOSED and the little animals rehomed. She must be removed as AAPDB President and declined a license to breed again.
An absolute disgrace! The above mentioned have lost their way well and truly. What are people supposed to think now after seeing this? I’m a member of the PIAA and I’ve put up with the negative comments about ‘innerwest vegans’ etc.. and been willing to put differences aside for the greater good. No more, I’m sick and tired of seeing this. How could you say you love animals and be a part of something so obviously broken. If they spent their time doing the grassroots work that the independent rescues did and listened to them instead of slagging them off they might actually contribute to a solution. How dare they not know what this woman was harboring! It is their job TO KNOW! What are you being paid for? Seriously! You see MR PERKINS, MR COLEMAN and MR CORNWALL you do not even know what you are endorsing because you are so out of touch with reality. Well, there are those of us out here who are in touch with reality on a daily basis and we will continue to find ways to hold you to account for your deceptive and deceitful public persona. I am relishing the response headed our way any day now stating the excuses for your gross negligence. Good luck with all the non-animal-advocating you do. What great men you are!
WHAT A DISGRACE!!. Why haven’t the RSPCA taken immediate action?
What a load of utter crap, these CEO’s etc seem to have no idea what goes on in the real world.GROSS NEGLIGENCE on
their parts. I will take animal rescue over the RSPCA any day as they are very ‘disappointing ” more frequently, it seems,
these days. As for Kate Schoeffel, you are a very low form of life and the last person who should be a vet.
Utterly disgusting!!! When will this coruption end? The NSW RSPCA as usual, enjoying its duplicity, in its dual role of animal defender. and wealthy corporation revelling in the profits of the compnion animal industry. The more puppy farms the better for all those who make money through the exploitation of animals. Kate Schoeffel should be jailed for cruelty to animals. Mr. Coleman, Mr. Cornwell and Mr. Perkins I have no words with which to express my contempt for these three pathetic individuals.
Bloody disgraceful!! & I wouldn’t trust the R.S.P.C.A either!
As someone who has purchased a dog from Kate, this article helps explain his malnourished condition and anxiety. Very grateful now that he has a happy home where he is now safe from harm with room to run, a water bowl always full of fresh water and a family to love him. Hopefully we will be able to train him, to eat and not flinch at quick movement.
