Groups fighting against proposed Breed Specific Legislation in WA (including West Australian’s Against Breed Specific Legislation and the Australian Veterinary Association WA) have today secured a piece on the ‘My Community’ newspaper group website, which will hopefully be syndicated to the printed media.
Paul Davey, the Australian Veterinary Association’s WA president, agreed (BSL) did not work.
“Banning or restricting particular breeds doesn’t work, and dog bites continue to happen,” he said.
“BSL has never been shown to reduce dog bites and make the community safer.”
“There are no reliable DNA markers for pit bulls and it is not possible to reliably identify a breed from a dog’s appearance.”
Unsurprisingly, there seems there is no dog expert in the country who supports using a dog’s physical looks to determine whether or not it is a safe animal.
Makes you wonder then, why these kinds of laws keep getting passed.
