Hume impounds and kill more dogs for being ‘pit bulls’ than any other council in the state of Victoria. In fact, while most councils have declared between 10 and zero – they have 62 pit bulls on their books.
If we ever needed confirmation that animal management officers need procedures and accountability when being given powers to seize and kill peoples’ pets, this is it…
(Cr Geoff Porter, of Hume City Council) said councils had to meet too many criteria to defend its confiscation of animals at VCAT, leading to technicalities that could see potentially dangerous dogs released.
“It’s very frustrating for our officers,” Cr Porter said.
“I think any sensible person would agree that if it looks like pit bull and it barks like a pit bull, then it probably is one.”
That pesky due process and those annoying courts interfering with Cr Porter’s mission to kill all those dogs who bark like pit bulls… I think any ‘sensible’ person could understand his officers being ‘frustrated’ at not being able to kill even more dogs than they already do. Those ‘pit bull’ owners should just learn to be grateful for their dog-killing services.
