Kennel cough is a contagious respiratory disease among dogs. It infects a very high percentage of dogs at least once during their lifetime and treatment is often to simply allow the disease to run its course, just like the common cold in humans.
At Campbelltown Pound however, having kennel cough is a death sentence;
We are all in mourning here today at Labrador Rescue.
We called Campbelltown Pound today to organise to collect the gorgeous 8 year old Lab we have had our name on to rescue. We were most distressed to learn that they had put him to sleep yesterday because he had kennel cough.
All of the rescues when they arrive with us have kennel cough, this is something we have always thought of as normal for dogs coming out of a kennel environment. Unfortunately, the vet at Campbelltown Pound puts all dogs with kennel cough to sleep so they do not pass the cough on to other dogs.
…
RIP the gorgeous 8 year old Lab that we tried to save and were prevented from helping.
While Campbelltown Pound is singing its own praises in the media, a super adoptable dog with highly treatable, non-life threatening illness, who had secure place in rescue, has been slaughtered while in their ‘care’.
And this pound blames you for the killing.
Campbelltown Pound can be reached on [email protected].
It will become increasingly difficult for euthanasia-as-quarantine to be accepted by a compassionate public as a management tool for animals with contagious non-lethal diseases.
Who is the vet who kills the dogs? Name and shame him or her. Killing the dogs because of KC is outrageous and unethical.
