I wonder if so many rescue groups and others are so busy at this time of the year to be aware of what PP is doing.

I think there needs to be an awareness campaign and all of them contacted individually and some sort of register/petition be organised state wide for those opposed to puppy/kitten farms/bybs and Pets Paradise being a retail outlet for them. SEE THIS COMMENT FROM RSPCA VIC

    Donations from pet shops

    21 December 2010

The RSPCA has received numerous communications from the community that some Pets Paradise stores are fundraising on our behalf this festive season. We would like to alert the public that we have not received any donations from any Pets Paradise store, and have actively contacted Pets Paradise head office to alert its store managers that we wish for them to cease using our brand to secure donations from the public.

The RSPCA is in no way associated with Pets Paradise and will not be accepting any donations from pet shops.

Most seem to be council pounds. Could it be said that council pounds are really RESCUE or merely holding pens and killing facilities? This got me thinking of the distinction/difference and an approach to this issue of PP trying to “cash in” on the good name of rescue.

The brand issue is what PP are trying to do – associate themselves with rescue orgs, as public statement from RSPCA (above) indicates.

Who are “Pets and Paws’? Corio, Knox and Parkmore claim to have been collecting donations for them. A google search for them only turned up three references and two were for this article.

The majority of Victorian Pets Paradise stores are not listed even though they were collecting donations from the public.

I know for a fact that many of these rescue groups were not even consulted about these donations. Obviously rescue groups who work tirelessly to save animals would not want any association with a pet store.. Therefore they have not generously accepted donations!

Just wanted to say that, without posting any names, I’ve been in contact with two of the Pounds listed as having “gratefully accepted” donations, and they say it is a complete fabrication. They have never and would never accept donations from Pets Paradise.
